DJI Mavic Air 2 Propeller Guards | Review & Test Flight

DJI tends to release propeller guards for most of their consumer drones. In some cases, they are included in the “Fly More Combo’s” and other times they are a separate purchase. With the DJI Mavic Air 2, they decided to make it a separate purchase and opted not to include it in the “Fly More Combo”. I think this was a good decision as not everyone needs propeller guards and there no need to pay for accessories that you will not use.

The propeller guards for the Mavic Air 2 are more like a bumper and do not offer full 360-degree protection from the propellers like the guards for the Mavic Mini. They simply help when you run into things, but the propellers are still fully exposed so you will still need to use caution. The propeller guards weigh 90 grams so they don’t add a lot of weight to the drone when they are installed. Unlike the Mavic Mini, there is also no need to enable payload mode in the settings as according to the manual when installed you must hover the drone for approximately 6 seconds and the Mavic Air 2 will automatically recognize them and adjust the flight performance accordingly.

I did a quick test flight and found the drone to perform well, of course, the drone will not be as agile when the propeller guards are installed but overall I was happy. Propeller guards are great for new pilots giving you a little extra protection while you learn to control the drone. But I find them useful even for experienced pilots in some situations. Having them on in follow mode gives you a little more protection and even for myself sometimes when filing close up shots I like to have them on just to be safe. Watch my demo flight below.
