Recently GoPro has released a new accessory for the GoPro Hero 8 Black called the “Role Cage”. This accessory is only compatible with the Hero 8 due to its molded shape. Now, this new accessory first appeared on the GoPro website about 2 months after the release of the Hero 8 and makes me wonder if it was in response to all the negative feedback people had to the Hero 8 Black no longer has a removable/replaceable lens cover. Basically this new accessory is similar to the silicone sleeve and lanyard that they sell for the Hero 8 with a few significant differences. First, there is no lanyard attached nor a place to connect a lanyard. Most notably it has a removable lens protector that can be replaced if damaged.

This product is intended to give your GoPro Hero 8 Black a little extra protection for both the body and the lens if it is going to be mounted in ways or situations that could get a little rough. The silicon will help protect the body and the removable lens with help protect the lens on your Hero 8 Black. All in all, I think this is a recommendable product depending on your filming style. Hopefully, GoPro just goes back to the replaceable lens on this year’s updated model than we would not need accessories like this.
